Drink water…not soda or juice or coffee!

Happy Thanksgiving all! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday! I just wanted to take a quick minute to remind heart-healthy people to watch your fluids. If you are trying to lose weight, take in less sodium or eat more sensibly then you need to watch what you drink as well as what you eat. Pepsi and Coca-cola have a TON of sugar, a significant amount of calories and a moderate amount of sodium and carbohydrates. Many juices have a lot of sugar, calories and carbohydrates as well. Coffee by itself is not too harmful…its the stuff you put in the coffee that will break your diet! Creamers and sugar will likely add too many calories, sugar, carbs and sodium.  Even a cup of skim milk has a significant amount of sugar, calories, carbs and sodium.

Water really is the best liquid to drink! You can’t get a more perfect fluid for your diet and your heart. Any other drinks you consume you should check out their nutrition facts before chugging them down. There are lots of free online nutrition fact checkers. Some of them don’t include sodium so look carefully! I found the following website which includes all of the pertinent facts: http://www.acaloriecounter.com.
